I have SOMETHING to say!

There are times that I feel like I have something to say but often the things are unimportant or unoriginal and so this time I leave it up to TheButterflyPeople to do the talking for me. This piece I actually hope somebody buys because I want an activist or loud mouthed straphanger type person to get it or give it as a gift. Seriously.
She was hand sculpted just like the rest of them, but her expression is worlds away from the statuesque plain faced girls I have been making, she actually conveys some kind of emotive quality which really is what I am going for here, even the pretty ones should smile eh? Speaking on beauty, she is alright, her strong point is her sign which states that she has something to say, she also points like ole Uncle Sam, but she points upwards. Her teeth were hand formed, and then inserted into her mouth, not an easy feat considering she is only two inches tall!
She was fun, shes simple, but has significance in this crazy world we live in.

New

Here are pictures of all the new shizz Ive been working on, I mentioned some of them in the last blog.

To start things off, below is one of the tiniest butterfly people EVER
She was a pain in the butt to make, and probablly took more time than the much larger ones I made the same day.

As you can see, I was getting a little wacky with the colors this particular day, this girl has lilac skin and purple clothes.

I found myself with a great blend of colorful polymer clays to use as clothes, so I decided to make a colorful skirt girl, however, she has attitude, and is making a statement about Freedom, what it means to be free, are we really free? Also blood drips from her shirt, freedom... War, freedom... what is the connection? I hate to get political with my art, but are we really fighting for freedom in Iraq, how many lives must be lost?

Changing the mood here, we move on to my frivolous piece, I can always shrink back and compare my "meaningless" pieces to Rococo paintings which are picturesque and depict love and ignorance, but I digress, I really love to make blue n white haired pixies, don't ask me why.
Hopefully photobucket doesnt delete these, they have already taken down many of my pictures because they violate the terms... geeze people they are three inch polymer clay girls, not nude women! I have to use flickr.com more often!

Here is another mermaiden, I cannot seem to stop making the very things I used to say I didnt do... time changes all I suppose.

My "fallen angel" was baked and painted gold, I dont particularly like it, so I may paint over the gold white, stay tuned for updates on her.

Below:
Okay, this very plain woman looked so incredibly Biblical (to me from my childhood illustrated Bible stories) that I was going to put a little cross around her neck until I realized she was wrapped up and could very well be a Muslim woman, and wanting to remain universal and not keep her in a box (no pun intended), I simply gave her some props to carry, no religious symbolism here.
She kind of looks like a beggar as well. From the mother of Jesus to a beggar, wow, shes up to any interpretation!

Last, but not least, is my favorite of the bunch, her little lips remind me of Betty Boop, but no copyright infringement has been done as she really reminds me of me (dont take this the wrong way people, I dont want to be a woman) with her big eyes, and hopeful stare upwards. This is something I do when im on the bus home and think about things like the meaning of life and where my mother went (if anywhere) when she passed away. Looking up to the sky makes me feel very small and sad sometimes, other times if makes me feel as if someone is watching over me and is comforting. Anyway, she is Hope, an allegory of one of my everyday experiences.

Last, but not least is a video of some butterfly people! Many of these are for sale in my etsy store at www.minifigure.etsy.com

LoAdS of New StUff

Lots of new things to talk to you about, Ive been really busy and have made a half dozen new pieces, one is a mermaiden with a statuesque face, another is a beautiful girl with a political message blazed across her chest (I don't want to go political with my art, but she definitely went there subtly). Also the angel from the previous blog has been turned into gold... still others include one of my smallest pieces who happens to have blue skin, also one las lilac skin and purple clothes! A red head girl with pale skin was made along with another with black hair which says "The Hopeful" on her shirt. I feel I am one of the hopeful.
I also made a video which I will upload to YouTube and post with pictures of the rest of the bunch. Its going to be a big blog, so stay tuned, I hope to have it completed in about twenty four hours.

CUSTOM ORDER

The custom order of the year is almost done!
I have been working on this piece for sometime now, she is a custom order made to look like a very special little girl!
Check her out, she started as they all do as sheer potential, and became a work of art!

I am pleased and love the little thing, now thats what I call custom sculpture portraiture!

I am going to be compiling a whole book of custom Butterfly People, I will be doing them for $100 each at Union Square park this summer. I have one more lined up after this one, if the person ever sends me the photos of the kids!

UPDATE:: SHES DONE, see her photo below. Her case is a big one, she sits among pearls and shells and daisys with beautiful blue wings of a real Amazon butterfly!

Fairy Treasure Box

Boy oh boy am I excited!
Yes, I am about to make a butterfly people diorama which I have wanted to make for quite sometime now, but was not only intimidated by the amount of figures it would have to contain, but also afraid of other peoples reactions to it, now I don’t care!
Its going to be really, really crafty and inside of a display box measuring 9.6”x5”x6.75
I cant wait! Its gonna be groovy with moss, dried and synthetic flowers, ferns, stones, charms, jewels, hiding fairys, faes playing, lounging fairies and all! My gaia goddess will be the center attraction and lots of little sprites playing around, fighting, and just being fun. All color fairies! Brown, black, yellow, green! Everything! Its going to be so cool, and a big attraction to my table come time for Union Square.

Wings

"I have a lot of growing up to do" was the thought that occured in my mind after making my angel wings. This thought came about because I always sort of had a slight disdain for people who would come up to me and tell me "im into angels" yet I realized ive always been obsessed with feathered wings since I was a little boy. I have a lot of growing up to do because people deserve a little empathy sometimes.
So yesterday I finally got to do something I have always wanted to do, and that is make a pair of wings. These wings are simplified for sure, but still impress me. I went to a craft store to get wings, but all they had were those doves made out of foam and feathers and the wings dont really look real to me, so I bought my own feathers, a pair of scissors, and glue and made my own.
I put the wings on my elongated angelic figure and wanted her to be armless to remind me of the first time I saw the Victorious Nike statue which I think was Victory of Samothrace. I remember noting that although her head and arms were missing, the beautiful wings preserved were astounding to me and I loved them. I wanted to pay trubute to this. But then I got a better idea, why not a fallen angel... My fallen angel.
If I ever finsish the piece, it will be called just this: My fallen angel.

Below, is how I hope she ends up when finished, perhaps holding one of her arms with the other.
